TRIBUTE: People of the Journey

God has been doing a significant work in my life over the past year or two. I'd like to thank the following three people for being a special part of that:

Buffy. Thank you for sharing Blue Like Jazz (Donald Miller) with us. That book has been very good for me. I’ve been able to share it with a lot of people, and now I see them recommending it to others as well. The ripple widens. Because of that introduction, I’ve also had the privilege of reading Searching for God Knows What.

Travis. Thank you for introducing me to Rob Bell. Thanks for sharing Velvet Elvis. It was powerful. I needed it. I’ve shared it with many people. The ripple widens. I’ve grown because of his sermons and Nooma.

Angela. Thank you for introducing me to Jim Wallis and Sojourners. Through Sojourners, I learned of The Irresistible Revolution, and I’ve gladly shared it with others. I also found The Revolution there, and more recently, Faith Works. Also, thanks for sharing Derek Webb.

These authors have really impressed me over the past year. God is doing a work in my life, and He chose to use you to instigate it. Thanks for sharing your good stuff with me. You are salt. You are light.

Obviously, there are other great people in my life, but I wanted to publicly thank you three for sharing these particular people and literary works. This tribute is one way I can pass on what you’ve shared with me. May the ripples continue to spread.

Ya know, I think that you should be thanked for giving yourself to others. That's what you've done for me. You've lended me an ear, encouraged, and inspired. Thanks Jeff. I'm honored to be on your list and I am humbled. You've passed good stuff on to me too such as "Why We Fight", "An Inconvenient Truth" and "The Corporation". Those films have changed MY life and the ripples are continuing. Thanks for being a ripple. (as long as it's not a ripple in the bathtub)

that's gross, travis.

that IS gross. it reminds me of a scene i saw in a korean movie this weekend. i always wondered what the man's side of the jjimjilbang was like. now i know. anyway. that's not really what i came here to comment about.

i agree with travis. i am thankful for all that you (and charissa) have given to me. i don't know if i can list it in books, well, i guess i could list it in a series of six books, complete with workbooks and a pronunciation guide. you helped me get to korea and have the courage to speak in front of people. all of your listening made me feel like i actually said something worth saying. you guys definitely gave me confidence to actually take what's in my hand and do something with it. and yes, the ripples continue on and on. hmm...i've been here over a year now. i could blog about all the ripples...

i really miss you guys being here, but i know we're still our little church.

and can i just admit that i don't even read the sojo mail all the time anymore. really, i never did. it was just that one random, probably seemingly purposless, day in the textbook office when i found the insight into "what is in your hand." one little comment started a small ripple. God is incredible in the way he moves us. i like mapping out the connections. everything is a connection. everything that happens moves us in a new way to new thoughts and new ways to make a difference in this world. i like God very much. He is my favorite.
