Two raccoons stopped by for a little dog food tonight. It was so much fun to watch them nervously waddle up to the glass door to check us out, just inches away. The bigger one ate most of the food, and the smaller one with three legs only got to eat the leftover scraps. It is nature's way. But I hate it.
I really want the three-legged raccoon to be my pet. I would make sure it was never hungry. I would give it attention and hold it. It's fine with me for the big bad-arse to pass on its genetic material (it's beautiful), but I want to take care of the injured one.
Maybe that's like God and us crazy people. This weekend some five and six-year-old kids didn't want to play with an eight-year-old because he was different. He has to wear a helmet because he has seizures and can fall on sharp corners and objects when he loses control. While I'm sure the angels love all the kids and just want them to get along, I'll bet the angels want to hold Brian the most and tell him he's okay, that he's loved, that eternity will be better.
I was sitting at the back door reading Matthew 5 just before the animal visitation.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

my mom used to pick up injured birds on the side of the road like every week and try nurse them back to health by feeding them pronutro through a syringe. most of them died, but i think she saved about 4 or 5. which makes a small difference i think.
To answer your question: no, I don't beleive we're any different to animals. Which upsets a lot of people. But the day that someone can prove to me that we're 'superior' I will give up my carreer and go and hide in a basement somewhere.
I think a lot of the worlds problems stem from us thinking we're better than any other species (and then better than any other country, then city...)
I'd love a pet racoon! Even if it only had 3 legs.
Anyway, I must go and work :(
word for the day: GATVOL!
jeff. . . you and your wife are awesome. i miss you guys and it was good to talk the other night (and chat with your wife online).
i'm glad that you regularly get to enjoy nature. it's always difficult here in korea. i was planning on going to Chuncheon for some mtn. biking this sunday but I have to go to Seoul for level 6 interviews.
The plus side? I get to see Angela, meet Klairlyn, go to a mexican restaurant and possiblly see jackass 2!!
um..yeah...so, thank goodness for blogs, huh?! welcome to seoul, travis. let me know what you have in mind. i'm sure i'll be working during testing, so you can give me a call after you're finished or before then, that's fine too.
i like your little critters, jeff. it's cool that you love them so much. i hope you can sneak the three-legged one a feast sometime. i hope you can give brian an extra hug too. God bless us, every one.
i totally feel the same away about animals AND people. maybe that's why i have always loved the book "Charlotte's Web." the runt of the litter turns out to be 'Some Pig.'
Here are three verses that I think relate to this topic. Three ideas: (1) Our bodies are amazing. (2) We were originally created in God's image. (3) Because of the fall, we display the morality of animals. Maybe enlightenment is becoming again who God created us to be. Whatever.
I also thought, "As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. (Ecclesiastes 3:18)
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness..." (Genesis 1:26)
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made... (Psalm 139:14)
This reply confuses Charissa. Maybe it will confuse you as well. I just mean that I think we are like animals in moral issues (like the kids excluding the sickly boy & the big raccoon chasing off the 3-legged one). But I don't want to only say the negative side.
There is also the truth that we were created in God's image and we are amazing biological creatures.
