Tonight we watched Children of Heaven, an Iranian film about a poor boy, his sister and their shoes. I enjoyed it. Can someone familiar with Iranian culture explain the goldfish symbolism? What is the special meaning of the fish?
I was in the mood for a cheery flick, so I'm glad it was more upbeat than Osama, an Afghan movie about a poor girl who pretends to be a boy to take care of her mother but is discovered by the Taliban. It looks like Osama's main plot setup is similar to Baran--middle-eastern girl pretends to be a boy to help the family. One difference is that Baran appears to be a story of love while Osama was a story of unlove.

on an amusing, yet tragic note...
do you remember your robot head on your computer in the office? well, it just flopped down and smacked jamie in the head. she's fine, but mr. robot head didn't survive the crash. he is no more. may he rest in peace.
I am sad. I will miss Mr. Robotic. May he rest in peace (pieces?).
Give my deepest apologies to Jamie. May she not hate me always.
"I am. . Mr. Ro bot to"
Goldfish are symbols of good luck in Iran. Everyone buys them and displays them there to celebrate the New Year.
