WORK: Perspectives

Realistic expectations are important. Maybe I've had too high of expectations for work, for fulfillment in the workplace. Work is important, but maybe it wasn't intended to fulfill me like I had hoped. I was created for more than work; to enjoy my wife, nature, friends, food, music... Maybe if I was fulfilled by work, I wouldn't search for God. I'd just work more and neglect the other good things God has for me, like himself.

And yet I do want to enjoy it. Like the Bible says:

Ecclesiastes 3:22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him?

Ecclesiastes 8:15 So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has given him under the sun.

This week I wrote down my thoughts on my dream job. It looked like a list that could possibly be met by working for World Vision or ADRA or as a college religion teacher. We'll see where God directs this adventure.
