That might be an overstatement (for now), but it reminded me of Fun with Dick and Jane. And then it reminded me of Isaiah 5, which I had read the previous morning (from Biblegateway.com):
8 Woe to you who add house to house
and join field to field
till no space is left
and you live alone in the land.
9 The LORD Almighty has declared in my hearing:
"Surely the great houses will become desolate,
the fine mansions left without occupants.
15 So man will be brought low
and mankind humbled,
the eyes of the arrogant humbled.
16 But the LORD Almighty will be exalted by his justice,
and the holy God will show himself holy by his righteousness.

thanks for this post. i love you man and respect you and charissa so much. thanks for being willing to point out the painful truths. this will be a stretching period for many. may we count it a blessing that we have had to learn how to live meagerly. hopefully the pain won't be unbearable. in our weakness his strength is made perfect.
peace be with you.
