Of all the revolutionary films we’ve watched over the past few months (The Motorcycle Diaries, The Edukators, V for Vendetta and Joyeux Noel), Sophie Scholl—The Last Days was my favorite. Julia Jentsch gave a fine performance in both this and The Edukators (Daniel Bruhl seems to keep showing up as well).
I seem to like movies that are discourse driven, factual, and revolutionary.
Comparing her revolution of words and right action with V’s vengeful and explosive revolution, I come down on the side of Sophie (even though I was sympathetic to V). I want a revolution of love, of fairness, of justice, even of forgiveness. The means are just as crucial as the ends.
